Benoit Roman
Benoit Roman is CNRS research fellow working in Paris at ESPCI. He also teaches mechanics at Ecole Polytechnique.
His research interests are related with the non-linear mechanics of thin plates and rods. Because of large deformations, universal non-linearities arise from geometry, which plays a predominant role in the mechanics of thin sheets: crumpling singularities, instabilities, pattern formation. He worked on the effect of capillary forces on elastic plates, and on the propagation of fracture in thin sheets (tearing).
